Registration opens at the guild meeting two months prior to the class. Registration is accepted at general meetings, at board meetings, by mail and by email. A registration form can be found in the newsletter. Note that your place in the class is confirmed only after your payment is received.

- If you are bringing a sewing machine, you may also need the use of an iron. There will be one iron/board available for the group, consider bringing your own.

- You may also want to bring ziplock bags for taking your project or its pieces home.

"Gentle Curved Piecing and Other Techniques - Any Level Quiltmaker"
This is a workshop to give you tools to sew outside the block. The techniques learned in this class combine Curved Piecing, Layering, Curve-as-Template, Disappearing Act, Floaters, Magic Square, and Mac's Heart Block. Sound like a lot? You bet it is. After a round of introductions, expectations, typical quilters' getting to know one another, Mac will start you on one technique, and move to the next and the next and the next. We will break for lunch, then hold your breath and we'll get back to learning more techniques. Okay you're allowed to breathe - and stretch - and yak, but only if you keep sewing at the same time! Curved Piecing - Mac will show you how he pieces those, how he irons, and how and why he uses curved piecing in his quilt-making - and how you might, too! Layering - The technique most underestimated since it creates so many unexpected surprises - especially when using large-print fabrics. Curve-as-Template - What do you do when you want to sew a curved to piece a new piece of fabric? Mac will show you. Disappearing Act - With curved piecing, you can have fabric disappear into a very thin point and have it reappear as another thin point - very effective, very eye-catching in a quilt. Floaters - Had enough curved piecing? Okay, stacked floaters, free floaters, two-color or many color variations - just a very fun and useful tool to spark up a quilt. Magic Square - another technique using straight lines - yes, you can break out your rulers - and make a very versatile block that goes back to the early days of quilt-making. Sylvia Einstein dubbed it the Magic Square since it has so many uses and wonderful effects. Mac's Heart Block - and back to curved piecing and my version of a heart that is actually rounded and fun to make! |
