SCVQA Activities

Block Party

Participation in Block Party involves creating the block announced in the month's Newsletter, and bringing it to the next meeting or mailing your blocks to the organizer. A drawing is held for the collection of blocks. If there are enough blocks, there are multiple winners.

Blocks of 2025

November 2025, Food

October 2025, Fall Colors

A beautiful photo of tree leaves turning such lovely fall colors was the inspiration for this block.

September 2025, Disappearing Log Cabin

August 2025, Goldfish

August is a good month to go fishing!  And because SCVQA is celebrating 50 years as a quilting organization, let’s find some Goldfish.

July 2025, Flag Block

The 4th of July is a time for celebrating our country’s independence, so flags will be flying!

The inspiration for this little block came from the linked blogcheck it out if you’d like to see her cute scrappy flags.

June 2025, Grandmother's Choice

Pretty in pink!  Choose a medium pink for the large triangles, a dark pink for the small triangles, and a light pink for the squares.  You will make 4 small block units like Photo 1, then arrange them as shown in Photo 2.  Photo 3 is the completed block.

May 2025, Flower Block

When recalling our April Bee Block, I think of their focus – flowers! Perhaps you have a large collection of floral fabrics like me – well this is a good block to showcase them. The pattern comes from a website called BlockLotto.com and I picked the largest flower size to enable the use of large prints. When making the flower blocks, choose fabrics with high contrast. For more extensive directions and photos, check out the website:

April 2025, Honey Bee

Spring is here and the bees are hard at work, so I thought this block would be fun. It is from the CakeStand Quilts website and is full of great instructions with lots of photos – the author encourages the blog to be shared (donation mentioned at the end is no longer active).

March 2025, Drunkard's Path

We’ll salute the Irish in March with an easy Drunkard’s Path block. Choose a light green and a darker green solid or blender. Use either one for the background and the other one for the circle. This way the finished quilt will have some variations.

February 2025, Red All Over Improv Block

For this February improv block choose a variety of red solids and prints. The sample block shown has 15 different reds in it. Scraps can be any size and shape.

Small Quilt Groups

SCVQA has small quilt groups for members to participate in, from hand stitchers to machine sewers. These groups create their own schedules, choice of quilting projects and their own locations to meet. The Small Groups Coordinators, Cherese and Joyce, can help you get connected with a group welcoming new members.

If you are interested please reach out to them at scvqasmallgroups@gmail.com.
